M5 workstation kit

ESD Anti-Static Workstation Kit

A conductive floor deck for a static-sensitive work position. This is ESD matting, not electrical insulating matting to BS EN 61111. They do opposite jobs.

Section through the deck and its bevelled edging, drawn at true scale against the thickness most UK interlocking matting is sold at. Working surface: solid top, conductive compound.

A conductive 25mm floor deck for a static-sensitive work position. The compound carries charge away through the deck rather than letting it build in the person standing on it.

One thing to be completely clear about before you read any further. This is ESD matting, which is designed to conduct. It is the opposite of electrical insulating matting to BS EN 61111, which is designed to insulate and is used in front of live switchgear. Buying one when you needed the other is a serious mistake and the two get confused constantly. If you are standing in front of an energised panel, this is not the product and you should ring us.

It is also a floor deck, not bench matting. Bench matting is the thin ESD sheet that goes on the bench under the work. This goes on the floor under you, and it is part of the same grounded system rather than a replacement for it.

This is the right kit when

  • You handle boards, components or assemblies that electrostatic discharge can damage.
  • The work position is part of an EPA and needs a conductive floor surface.
  • The floor is dry.

It is the wrong kit when

  • You need insulation in front of live electrical equipment. That is BS EN 61111 matting, which is a different product doing the opposite job.
  • The floor is wet or washed down. There is no ESD kit with a drainage grid, so ring us and we will spec the position properly.
  • You want an ESD surface on the bench top rather than the floor. That is bench matting, and it is not this.

Why the kit costs what it costs

You can buy loose matting tiles cheaper than this. It is worth knowing exactly what the difference is before you do, because it is not margin.

01

25mm, not 12 to 19mm

Every interlocking tile we can find on sale in the UK is 12mm, 16mm or 19mm. Ours is 25mm. Thickness is what does the work underfoot, so this is a different class of product rather than the same thing at a higher price.

02

Edging is in the box

Bevelled edging closes every open edge, and it is included. Sold separately elsewhere it runs £19.00 to £27.20 per edge piece, and a work position needs four to six of them. That is £76 to £163 of accessory you are not buying.

03

The price is the delivered price

No carriage at checkout, no threshold to reach, no Highlands surcharge and no price on application for Northern Ireland. The number on the page is the number you pay, anywhere in the UK.

Compare a finished work position against a finished work position, not a kit against a single tile. Tiles, the edging to close the perimeter and the carriage on a heavy box are three separate lines everywhere else. Here they are one number.

Before you order

Questions people ask

The details specific to this surface. For anything unusual, ask us before ordering.

01Is this the same as electrical insulating matting?

No, and the difference matters. ESD matting conducts static away in a controlled manner. Electrical insulating matting to BS EN 61111 resists current and is used in front of live switchgear. They do opposite jobs and one will not substitute for the other.

02Does it need to be bonded to earth?

An ESD floor is part of a grounded system, so yes, the installation needs a path to earth to do its job. Ring us and tell us what the position looks like and we will tell you what the kit needs alongside it.

03Is this the same as your ESD bench matting?

No. Bench matting sits on the bench surface. This is a 25mm deck that goes on the floor. Sites that need both usually run both, and they are specified separately.

04Do you have test data for surface resistance?

Ring us and tell us what your specification or auditor requires. We would rather send you what has actually been measured than publish a number that does not match your test method.

Still weighing this up against the Anti-Fatigue kit?

Both are 25mm decks with edging included. The difference is the top surface and what your floor does. Compare them side by side, or answer three questions and we will pick.
